I have two adorable nieces. The younger girl is 6 years old, while the other one is 9. When the 6-year-old girl called me on the phone yesterday, she was crying. According to her, as she explained through her sobs, she had participated in an emergency drill at the elementary school and some scenes in the earthquake video that she had watched were simply too scary for her. As a result, when she returned home, and there was nobody there, her mind naturally remembered the disasters shown in the school video. Frightened and alone, she simply could not stand being by herself at that moment and needed to talk with someone. She told me “I'm so scared of an earthquake happening right now!” To help her to calm down, to keep her company, and to let her know that everything was going to be okay, I simply talked with her on the phone until her mother came home.
