In October 2023 I started jogging in the nearby park. Before then I was continuously gaining weight because of my apprenticeship as an IT specialist where I sit eight hours a day. I thought working out at home for 20 minutes two or three times a week would help, but that was not fun
for me. In my dual apprenticeship we started to have sport lessons for 90 minutes a week. My sports teacher first told us the basics of why we do sports and how the human body uses different types of energy from different types of sugars. I then realized that working out for 20 minutes two or three times a week doesn't even touch the fat that I wanted to reduce. He told us that endurance sport is the perfect type of exercise for this. Therefore, he annouced a 10 kilometer run. With my allergies and type of asthma, I thought that this would be horrible and that he would give me bad marks. From then on I trained for the 10 kilometer run every week and started tracking my progress with mobile phone apps. The correct running shoes and running clothing are essential for this sport. Doing this physical exercise three times a week motivates me and activates me at the start of the day because exercise makes my heart pump a lot of oxygen through my body. After about one month
I started to feel a runner’s high and running has been fun ever since. This showed me again that even though I thought this was almost impossible, it is possible to accomplish. Doing physical exercise is healthy for my body. I am feeling more awake afterwards and it shows me and others around me that I have a lot of mental
strengh. I would recommend for everyone to at least try an endurance sport. I saw so many different types of people at different times of day who at least tried.
