Faulty Towers

Everyone is different. Britain today is very multicultural, and even when it wasn't (many decades ago) there was a clear difference in humour between social classes, and also between personality types. Having said that, Terry's suggestion is as good as any. Classic British Humour as dictated by the BBC (which may be the ruling class projecting how they want the commoners to laugh, more than anything else) includes shows like Fawlty Towers, Only Fools And Horses and Dad's Army. These are probably my top 3, in order. They're packed with cultural lessons -- not only humour. Many people would rate The Office as their favourite. That one has a very different kind of humour and I don't enjoy it personally. I reckon it would be hard for a foreigner to understand the humour in it, not least because I don't find it funny myself. Other people -- especially older people -- often rate Monty Python top, but I don't enjoy that one either, personally. Like I said, everyone's sense of humour is different. There's no single 'British' humour type. But there is a type associated with each famous comedian, actor or sitcom, and there are themes shared between some of them. For a more modern take, I would recommend picking a sport you enjoy, then finding British athletes (some retired, some not) from that sport who have YouTube channels, then observe their jokes. You'll probably find every individual has their own sense of humour still, but if you follow all the main local characters in that sport, especially if it's a working class man's sport like Boxing, then you'll get a well rounded view of Modern British Humour.
