The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the fourth largest plateau of China is located
mostly in the Yunnan and Guizhou province, with an area of around 500,000 square
kilometers and an average elevation of 2000-4000 meters. There are many deep
and steep canyons that contribute to its high in the west, low in the east and its
numerous rivers. The rich soil in the canyon area is conducive to agriculture and farming. The unique natural environment of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau has
created the diversity of the biology and culture. Not only is the region
rich in forestry and mineral sources, it is also an important regional
place of ancient human. The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau is home to the largest
number of ethnic minorities in China, and all ethnic groups retain their
abundant and colorful cultural traditions.
