Hi there !
in this sentence ; " I chat with my friends online." Can I say I hang out with my friends (on line)?
Or , hang out , only refers to spending time at a particular actual place ?

I would probably say hang out online if it was outside of a text based chat. For eg. In a video game, a zoom call, etc.
