Composition: My Favorite Fruit
My favorite fruit is cantaloupe. Sometimes, my parents buy cantaloupes to eat at home. Dad always turns them into "monster bowls" for me.
To make one, he first cuts the cantaloupe in half and removes all the seeds. Next, he uses a spoon to scoop out the fleshy pulp, creating spherical scoops. Then, he slices a thin layer from the bottom and carves a cute, creative monster face on it. This also makes the halved cantaloupe stand upright.
If the cantaloupe is ripe enough, he peels it and turns it into an edible bowl. However, you don’t want to do this if the cantaloupe is raw. We tried it once, and it tasted bitter and puckery. Finally, he cuts a small opening and wedges the monster face into the brim of the bowl.
I love cantaloupe, but truly it's the way it's prepared that I really enjoy. I plan to learn how to make monster bowls myself once I feel confident handling knives.
