Hello dear friends! A question to a grammar guru. What kind of grammar this is? (see below) Exercise 30. Change the conditional clauses to the forms without ‘if’. Model: If I were to ask for breakfast at this hour, Mother would resist it bitterly. – Were I to ask for breakfast at this hour, mother would resist bitterly. PS Could you please tell me if you use "Were I to.." often. Please give me some examples. Thank you!

I think this exercise it so that you learn to use it and understand itin case you need it. Conditionals using IF are much more common in my opinion.

This grammar is not commonly used by English speakers. You might see it written in literature or poetry.

You could use ‘Were I to…’ or ‘Should I..’ but this is all a bit nonsense because no one would say anything like this. If I asked my mum to make me breakfast early she’d tell me to get lost!
