전문 강사Have you tried playing this Singaporean battle royale game called "Free Fire?" I've seen so many people playing it, so I gave it a go this morning (not because I had nothing to do 😅). Overall, I enjoyed it a lot, so, let me talk about this game! 😀
"Free Fire" was developed by the Singaporean game company 111 Dots Studio and published by Garena, which is also based in Singapore, in 2017. (Yeah, despite popular belief that it's a Chinese game, it's technically a Singaporean game. As a side note, Forrest Li, CEO of Garena, also owns the giant e-commerce platform Shopee. 😎) Within two years of its launch, “Free Fire” claimed the world's most downloaded mobile game in 2019. In particular, it's now the No.1 mobile game in both Indonesia and Thailand.
The way you play "Free Fire" is pretty simple and easily seen in other battle royale games like "PUBG" or "Fortnite.": Your character parachutes onto an island. Over there, you scavenge weapons and items to fight against up to 49 other players until you either win or die.
In South Korea where "PUBG" was launched in March 2017 (6 months earlier than the official release date of "Fire Free"), there was a controversy over "Free Fire" among Korean gamers; they claimed it allegedly plagiarized "PUBG." The funny thing is that "Free Fire" players accused "PUBG" of plagiarism as well 😂. I'm not gonna go into the details of their claims, but I found out that neither of them is the trailblazer of a battle royale game for sure, though: Z1 Battle Royal, which came out in 2015, is technically the pioneer of this genre. So...yeah...😅
Anyway, it was such a pleasant experience trying out "Free Fire" for the first time today. The biggest motive behind it was to see why it’s such a big hit in Indonesia and Thailand in particular. Well, I have no idea why, but it is pretty fun to play, so the popularity makes sense! 😁 So, try "Free Fire" if you are bored and feel like shooting someone (in a game). 🔥🔥
