I don't really understand the difference in conjugation of masculine nouns in Dative e.g.
Why is it
- telefonovala jsem přiteli
But
- vyřídil to bratrOVI
How do i understand where is U, and where is OVI?

This is because of the ending -tel. When a masculine animate word ends in -tel it tends to decline differently. In this case you add -i instead of -ovi. That’s why you have zavolala jsem učiteli, příteli but bratrovi, kolegovi
