What does "strong" mean in this case? It's a noun? This is from an animal documentary about lemurs.

It means they live in groups of up to thirty. 'Strong' is used with numbers in this way to add the information that this number is large.
The crowd of protestors was 100,000 strong.
It's still an adjective (according to Macmillan).
