月，⺼, 肉 all have the association of “blood”: “month” is a measurement for not only the moon but menstrual cycles, which were hugely important to ancient humans as they were generally trying to increase their population (infant mortality was high, along with the dangers of childbirth—to both mother and child). OED (Oxford English Dictionary) writes that “month” has a relationship to “menses” which is “menstruation,” a monthly flowing of blood which signifies for no pregnancy and no child. OED also states that “month” comes from “moon.” When you “moon” someone, you show them your bottom or buttocks, which is generally the lightest part of your body. It is also the best eating (sorry about this) as it is where the “ham” comes from. (Yes, people ate people, especially if they were protein starved; read Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs, and Steel.) So “mooning” is about showing the two “O” shapes of one’s butt, but considering that breasts are just butts with nipples, the two “T’s” of “butt” could also represent the “teats” which is an acceptable form of “tit.” We see this in 太太 which means “wife,” but literally is “extremely extremely.” What was doubly extreme on a wife when there was no birth control or family planning? Her breasts. Hanzi has already established 奶奶 as “your father’s mother,” a woman who theoretically nourished two generations. 奶奶 literally means “milk milk.” Associating “moon” to “butt” and “wife” to “tits” is all about fertility: that’s why at the end of 2022 there wil be 8 BILLION people on this planet. We did not walk here. We had sex, even though we constantly pretend we didn’t. Turns out, this is a successful survival strategy—until now. Which is why there are so many pandemics.
