I just read the story. It's really interesting to know what stories are assumed knowledge in different cultures. We all have stories specific to our cultures that we picked up growing up. This includes things like fairy tails, legends, parables and, in this day and age, classic movies, TV shows and modern fiction (the latter three vary a lot across generations).

When you're learning a language, it'd be useful to look at these materials so you can catch references you mightn't get otherwise, plus it's also really interesting stuff.

It'd be interested to see if anyone's compiled a list of such references for different cultures. I couldn't find anything on Google, but I had trouble figuring out what to put into the search bar. If no such list exists, we should make one.
