As an American, I can say that we value independence. This means that it's important for each person to be fulfilled in their own personal way.

We are also pretty direct (in a polite way) when it comes to making plans or saying we are busy, or telling someone we don't like something.

These are just generalizations, though. There are a lot of cultures that have mixed together to make "American culture", so you will see values differ from person to person.
