When we retired, we had to decide whether to move or stay put, and we decided to stay where we were. So I guess we actually did choose to live in our pleasant but unremarkable city of 30,000, about 30 km. from Boston. It's not because it's a fabulous place, but because we were already living there, it had the comfort of familiarity, and the balance of good and bad things about it was good.

It's very dangerous to make decisions based on vacations, but I have to say that we were absolutely delighted by the city of Boulder, Colorado. We spent a couple of weeks there when our son was going to the University of Colorado. If you told me that I had to move, and that I had twenty seconds to name a city to move to, I'd name Boulder, Colorado.

Stephen King's novel, The Stand, is about an epic battle between Good and Evil, and he puts the headquarters of Evil in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the headquarters of Good in Boulder, Colorado!
