Like most of Latin America, Cuba is monolingual. The only language spoken in Cuba is Spanish since indigenous tribes were killed and slaves weren't encouraged to speak their mother tongue. Actually, on a linguistic diversity index, from 0 to 1000, where 1000 is when two people don't have the same native language and 0 is when all the population has the same mother tongue, Cuba ranked 1. Can you believe it? However in Cuba, or at least in Habana where  I've been, there are way too many tourists (3 million per year) and you will hear many languages on the street. However the average Cuban still doesn't speak English or any foreign language because it's too expensive and Cubans make very little money. They earn 25 USD per month and an English course would cost between 10 to 30 USD. Only rich Cubans (usually the ones who have family abroad) can afford it. Of course they also learn English at school, but classes are very bad, Cuban education can be good, buy not for English. Ironically I met more English speakers in Cuba than in Brazil, but then it's our fault 

Cuba as well as Florida has been a refuge for Haitians, now they are again in a desperate situiation so I would just ask for people to donate a buck or two for Haiti, you can do it through the Red Cross :)
