Teaching English In your opinion, what are the most helpful and useful qualities for an English teacher to have?

Hi,

In my opinion, teacher should have patience towards students, some of them afraid of losing face when talking with teacher, espiecially Chinese students. Teacher should encourage students to talk more about themselves and help them to build confidence. This is very important. Hope it helps.

In my opinion a teacher should have an ability to have interaction with the student. So that, learning can be fun.

For me it is:

1-like to teach the language as well as the place where it is spoken

2-Encourage student learning with things they enjoy doing

3-Have patience to teach in different ways to different students, when necessary

Thank you all for your thoughts. It is especially good to hear from the student's perspective. I feel even more motivated now because these are all traits that I also think are very important and strive to keep with me while I'm teaching. Good to hear from you all!

I think being patient is really important and also being able to make the student feel comfortable and confident. I also think it's important to make it interesting, all the students learn differently and the teacher should be able to adapt the lessons for the student instead of the other way around. Studying should always be fun.
