I was raised in Canada and live in the US. In general Canadians tend to enunciate words more than Americans. Vowels tend to be "longer" in Canadian accents. For example the word "sorry" in Canada would have a pronounced "o" , like "soar-ry" while in the US it is usually a little shorter - almost sounding like "sar-ry". The word "again" in Canada is pronounced "a-gain" while in the US it sounds more like "a-gen". And then there's the famous words in the Canadian accent, out and about. In Canada it sounds like "ow-t" and "ab-ow-t" while in the US you wouldn't hear the "w" sound. They also say pasta with an a like in "and". In the US they say what sounds more like "posta" as they would say it in Italian. Those are just a few examples of what I hear in the Canadian accent.

I'd say the accents on the east coast of Canada are very similar to accents you'll find in the American Midwest and parts of the East coast. In many ways the stereotypical "What are you talkin aboot, eh?" Canadian accent sounds a lot like a Minnesota accent.

In fact, people in parts of the Midwest and East Coast probably speak more like east coast Canadians than people from Texas, the South, certain east coast cities, etc.

The few people I've met from Vancouver sounded like they had a general American west coast accent, and to be honest I don't think this accent is very different from the general American accents you'd hear on televised news.

Forget about Quebec because they're francophone.

There are few differences but the truth is there are so many variations among within American accents or Canadian accents.

I hope that answers your question.  If you'd like to practice speaking, I'd be happy to help you. Feel free to look at my teaching profile and class offerings and send me a message if you think I can help you.
