What is the most interesting feature of your mother tongue? Farsi (Persian) is commonly considered a genderless language. For both male and female, the same nouns, pronouns, and adjectives are used. Actually, in my language gender is something neutral or unimportant. However, Farsi can be really challenging , as its formal and informal form are quite different, which makes it a little hard or confusing for beginners.

English? Definitely the spelling. The way words are spelled perhaps made sense at some point in the past, but now makes little sense at all.

In addition, although English is not a Latin language, it has become increasingly latin-based over the past 1,000 years owing to such things as the Norman Conquest, the importance of Church Latin, and the use of Latin in science and education.

German is quite hard in terms of grammar but you can build funny and useful words by just appending nouns to each other which can lead to really long words that still make sense.

In Portuguese, some nouns have apparently two forms: the masculine one and the feminine one, but their different meaning has nothing to do with sex but most times they are related.

o rio-> the river; a ria->the estuary

o lixo->the rubbish; a lixa->the sandpaper

o capital-> the capital; a capital-> the capital city

o moral-> the morale; a moral-> the morality

a perna->the leg; o perno-> the pin

a cabeça-> the head; o cabeça->the leader; o cabeço-> the hilltop (two different masculine forms)
