Class(articles)

Hi, there

Do you say “There will be no class today” or “There will be not a class today”? And “There will be a class today” or “There will be class today”?

Finally, do you say “Will there be a class today?” or “Will there be class today”?

I am talking about just one class

Thank you

"a" means one, so:

- there is a class today = there is one class today

- there is no class today = there is not one class today =  there are zero classes today  (zero = not any... When zero is used with countable nouns, zero is always followed by plural nouns. With uncountable nouns, the singular form is used.

“There will be no class today” CORRECT

“There will be not a class today” INCORRECT         THERE WILL NOT BE A CLASS TODAY  IS CORRECT

“There will be a class today” CORRECT

“There will be class today”? INCORRECT   [THE NOUN CLASS IS A COUNTABLE NOUN SO IT REQUIRES AN ARTICLE]

“Will there be a class today?” CORRECT

“Will there be class today”?   INCORRECT  [THE NOUN CLASS IS A COUNTABLE NOUN SO IT REQUIRES AN ARTICLE]
