전문 강사👉 Вкус - taste, flavor
🙋 Hello, my dear Russian learners! Здравствуйте, мои дорогие ученики!
Today we’re going to talk a bit about the Russian Word formation. Сегодня мы немного поговорим о русском словообразовании.
Find all my posts about the Russian Word formation here #RUwordformation
Any word doesn’t exist isolated, words come to groups linked with the same root. Word formation is very strong in Russian, so if you add a prefix or suffix to a certain root you will have a new word with a particular shade of meaning.
Let’s take a look what words can be derived from the word “вкус” which means “taste” or “flavor”:
✏️ вку́сный (adjective), вку́сно (adverb) - tasty
✏️ невку́сно (adverb) - not tasty
✏️ при́вкус (noun) - aftertaste
✏️ безвку́сный (adjective) - tasteless, tacky
✏️ безвку́сица (noun) - tacky
❓ What is the correct pronunciation of all of these words? Do you know which rule of reading we need to apply to read them in the correct way?
❓ А вы знаете, как правильно произнести все эти слова? Какое правило произношения мы должны применить, чтоб прочитать их правильно?
I will write about it in my next post. Я напишу об этом в следующем посте.

No, i mean you have a string of words having physical "taste/вкус" meaning in common. The last one is about manner, style not about physical sense of taste. It's also might be confusing that in Russian we have the same base - taste/вкус for the both cases.

Hi @Julia. The last word - tacky - is irrelevant to the previous ones. I would give it a dedicated post.

Все эти слова - часть одного словообразовательного гнезда, а для меня как раз важно дать студентам представление о словобразовательных моделях в данном случае. Слово "вкус" имеет несколько значений, но это значения одного слова, а не омонимы.

Hi. Thanks for your comment. Do you mean that there is no such a noun in English? I've checked the dictionary and it seems like there is the adjective but the noun doesn't really exist.
