Norwegian Farm-Raised Salmon is Safe?
Sometimes, I have had Norwegian salmon for meals, but not long ago, I came to know that there is a controversy about the safety of eating it. Some say people never must eat it, and some insist it has no problem.

What is the truth? I want to hear some helpful advices from you.

Farm raised salmon from Norway is very common here (Denmark) and as far as I know there is no issues with the safety of eating it.. Having said that, when a fish is farm raised you can't expect it to have the same nutritional value, so where a wild salmon would contain healthy nutrients and oils, the farmed raised one might be missing these otherwise good and healthy nutrients etc. Just food for thought, but wild salmon shouldn't be consumed too often since its a fairly big fish and therefore it will "store" larger amounts of heavy metals such as lead.. This isn't the case with farm raised salmon I presume..

i always thought that salmon is safe, but one day i read a comment saying that even she was living in Japan, her husband didnt allow her to eat salmon, it's not healthy now. Is that true?

I know there is a problem with high levels of heavy metals (mercury) that are regularly found in certain species of fish. But this concerns predatory fish in general, not only salmon, and involves the entire marine ecosystem, not just specific regions. I'm not sure though, maybe it's not the same problem you are talking about.

Maybe it's because Scotland is where most of our salmon comes from? I'm not entirely sure. It's not uncommon for similar industries all across the world to share similar issues.

I have heard the similar things about Scottish salmon, I can't imagine the farming process is very different.

I don't know about Norway specifically but I know there is issues with Scottish farmed salmon. Mostly that the concentration of fish means disease which needs to be treated with antibiotics. Also high concentrations of sea lice and sometimes damage to the ecosystem.

Also that some salmon is dyed pink because they are fed on a diet of pellets and not their traditional food. I think it's ultimately safe to eat but as with all mass produced food it's not the best. Man's gotta eat :D
