Historyically, it's fairly probable if some other region displaces the West as most powerful. But there may be more inertia now than there has been in the past - I _think_ (but have no data) that a larger percentage speaks English today than ever spoke French or Latin. And things like programming languages and programs are mostly English, doesn't change overnight.

English is currently only supreme for business. If history is anything to go by, then one day another language will became dominant. I think Spanish is becoming increasingly popular in many parts of the word, and also there seems to be a greater desire for westerners to learn eastern languages over the past few years.

In my opinion replacement of English as a language of international communication is possible in the future but it will take time. Imagin that French had this position for more than 300 years. English replaced it after WW II. Earlier Latin had this status for more than 1000 years but was replaced by French at the turn of the 16th and 17th century (something about that). And nobody knows which language will replace English in this role and when it will be.
