I support their right to march, obviously. But they're completely misinformed not only about what GMOs are, but also what organic foods are AND what effects all such foods have. Further, their continued nonsense adversely affects the very lives of people in poorer areas of the world in the same way that anti-vaxxers affect such people. They're scientifically illiterate borderline conspiracy theorists who don't remotely realize that:

A. Most of the most common foods they eat are genetically modified. The things are called cultivars. The only difference between "GMOs" and the food they eat is that the breeding process is expediated through science. Bananas, broccoli, brussels sprouts, tomatoes, peppers, etc. are all WILDLY different than their "natural" and sometimes inedible forms.

B. The amount of people on the planet cannot possibly be sustained without the cultivation practices we have in place, and with specific GMOs we've been able to save the lives of over a billion people (I'm looking at you, Norman Borlaug's miracle wheat). Eating "organic" food is a luxury of rich white people in the first world.

C. There's nothing wrong with the practice of genetic modification. The wrongness comes into play with malevolent entities using it for unethical purposes (i.e. terminator seeds), but to say that GMOs are bad because a select few GMOs do bad things is like saying all politics are worthless and dangerous because a select few political structures are totalitarian.

D. Their precious "organic" food is also treated with pesticides and regularly modified without breaking any food laws. They're just too uneducated to realize this.

In fewer words, they're a group of ill-informed nutters who chase clouds instead of focusing more of their attention on truly problematic environmental issues, and their tacit endorsement of outright propaganda campaigns frightens extremely poor people into starving even more by their opposition to a generally benevolent and massively helpful modern agricultural advancement. But once again, I support their right to assembly.

Where did you any point in my posts? I was just asking questions, and the two of you started attacking me for no reason. Where did I say that GMO food = crap food? I just said that somebody things that selling crap food to poor countries may be a good idea. You are fighting windmills here. If you really want to know what my opinion is you could have asked instead of starting to bring up all your rhetoric weapons.

So here is what I think. There is no 'golden hammer' in any type of technology. Every technology has its pro's and con's. So basically anyone who says that GMO or space rockets or nuclear engines, or whatever are just safe and good without any downsides, loses my credence immediately. The problem is to find out and balance off the bad sides vs good sides. And when business comes into play, then basically profit is good, loss is bad, and all the rest is unimportant. If you want to sell crap you can find 1 mln reasons why crap is good, it's called marketing. You can create media campaigns to sell basically anything except God and faith, but that's another discussion. So instead of argumenting my position, which is basically that GMO may have some good sides to it but only in a controlled environment, and certainly not earlier than after at least 100 years of independent research (if humanity is gonna die in these 100 years without a raw new tech then it does not deserve any tech at all, but I am more optimistic than that). LOL

Maybe Mr. Grant will introduce himself and offer his credentials as a literate and informed person. Is he a spokesman for GMO producing company and does he eat GMO food every day? It would be interesting to know. Because feeding the 'poor nations' crap food seems to be regarded highly humane, but eating it yourself as a member of the developed world is a completely different topic, isn't it?

Sorry, but vitaly, you start a discussion, and if it appears that some people disagree with you, you react like bitten by a snake! Typical 'linkse kerk gedrag'. I do not how exactly to translate this into English, it;s Dutch. But especially with the liberal, green protesters you see this division in good and evil. And of course you are the good, and the rest of the world that does not agree with you is evil.

Anyway, I am all pro gen technology! Also I am pro nuclear power. In both issues many green protestors are pulling the emotion card and scare people with unrealistic scenarios, and false information.
