There's a blog called "Ask a Korean" that has a list of the author's 50 Most Influential Artists of K-Pop. It's not complete yet, but what he has up so far is a good introduction to various classic Korean artists: http://askakorean.blogspot.com/1998/02/50-most-influential-k-pop-artists.html There's also a good YouTube channel where I've discovered a lot of classic stuff: http://www.youtube.com/user/pops8090 Maybe you'll find something you like there.

I lived in Korea over a decade ago, so my musical knowledge isn't particularly current but here are a few I enjoyed:

Kang San E is a rock singer that was quite popular at the time.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYF0Kz472rY)

Seo Tae Ji is/was a pop singer, but did a pretty good rock album or two. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BykZNO5GCfA)

Deli Spice is an alt/college rock type of group. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqdFYCSGsvE)

Crying Nut are a pretty good punk/alt rock band (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsVqFLbGCvI)

Hope you like them!

I like a lot of the old psychedelic Korean music like Shin Jung-hyun and Kim Jung Mi. Also, Sanullim is a pretty famous band from the 70s-90s. These days, some of the folkier bands (popular, but not quite K pop) are pretty good like Busker Busker or 10cm. I've seen a few metal bands around Seoul. One that stood out was called Harry Big Button. Good luck finding what you're looking for!
