As far as I'm concercend  what can make you strong it could be called hope.

I killed all my hopes, because they bother me to do something. I used to hope better life but I did nothing for my better life) 

Hope is within yourself. If you look inside and be strong, you will always have hope (Something similar in the song "Hero", by Mariah Carey).
