Buy or borrow a grammar and/or vocabulary text(book) and work through the exercises. Try to read simple writing, such as children's stories which will use the basic grammar and vocabulary. Start a journal and write something in it every day, using what you are studying. There really are no shortcuts and you will improve with daily practice. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect and you will progress. Try to live the new language as much as possible and enjoy it!
