The difference between bathroom and toilet?

In Australia (and probably in other English speaking countries) bathroom and toilet are interchangeable.

I'm trying to label various rooms in my house to practise my Spanish and I want to know what you call the room that has a toilet in it (this is separate in my house to the room with the shower).

I have el Baño for "Bathroom" but what is the toilet room, and what do you call the actual toilet?

Gracias!

Los baños que sólo tienen un lavabo y un WC y a veces una ducha, por ejemplo en los restaurantes, los cines o lugares publicos, se llaman de varias formas. Puedes decir:

- Voy al aseo. ¿dónde están los aseos?

- Voy al servicio. ¿dónde están los servicios?

También es muy habitual llamarle baño. ¿dónde están los baños?

Hey Jessica,

So the room is called "Baño" (or Cuarto de baño) but the actual toilet is called ''excusado'' or ''inodoro''.

I've actually never seen a room specifically for the shower, so in my experience they are all called baño. The bathtub is called "tina'' or "bañera" and the shower is called "la ducha". So maybe you could called it "el cuarto de la ducha"

Hope that helps.

:)

My understanding is that it can be different from country to country so it will depend on who you ask and where they are from. When you travel, usually the first thing you learn is how to ask where the bathroom is in the lingo of the place you are...or at least that's the first thing I try to learn! :)

Maybe I wasn't very clear. I understand there are lots of different words for bathroom/restroom/toilet in Western countries.

However what I was asking for was the Spanish term for the restroom, the place I would ask for if I was looking for the toilet in a restaurant for instance. I think Sandrah answered my question.

Thanks!
