I think movies are a great way to get familiar with a language. I really love watching movies and I would love to hear about your favorite movies.
Some of my favorite movies are 'American Beauty' and 'V for Vendetta', as they both tell a story about the psychology and growth of human beings.

I really like "about time" which directed by Richard Curtis. It's a romantic comedy. The leading actor, Tim Lake, had the ability to time travel. The whole story was talking about how he used this power to find love, and what he understood in the time travel. Recommend you this movie, and hope you can enjoy it. :)
Matrix and the Machinist are definitely both on my list too!!
