Thank you for sharing your good point!! Let me share you something I understand.

In my Japanese classes, I tell my students like this.

はじめまして hajimemashiteーLiterally translation is "It's our first meeting" - we only use at a first meeting.
初(はじ)め hajime means "first time"

よろしくおねがいします- regards today, thank you./nice too meet you
yoroshiku onegai shimasu

We use hajimemashite and yorosiku onegai shimasu at the same time at first timing.

I use yoroshikuonegaishimasu every lessons. Nuance is Regards today, thank you(Thank you today, Nice too meet you today??)

My conclution of how to use these 2 expressions

First meeting
はじめまして。なりたです。よろしくおねがいします。
hajimemashite。naritadesu。yoroshikuonegaishimasu。

Second meeting in some event(especially business things - lesson/saying to instructors/business meeting/workshop/)
きょうもよろしくおねがいします。
kyou mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu。(きょう-kyou= today )

I guess it's the different situations and nuances that is throwing me off. I won't worry about it too much. I'll just keep my eye out for when they are used and the context. Arigato!!

hajimemashite means to meet for the first time. We use this when introduce ourselves. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu is used in self introductions, but it means something like "Please treat me kindly." It can be used in many situations with different nuances.
