Phoenix Nirvana (凤凰涅槃) In China, Phoenix is one of our totems as well as Dragon. It’s not until today do I deeply know what Phoenix Nirvana means. It is of significant meaning whenever we talk about Buddhism or our traditional culture. In our legend, Phoenix is the messenger representing the happiness of this mortal world. Every 500 years, it dedicates itself into raging flames, accompanying hatred, unhappiness accumulated on the mortal world, for the purpose of exchanging its life for the peace and happiness. Until experiencing great pain and transmigration, it gets rebirth with clearer voice, more animated soul. It represents spirits of a bravery of suffering pain, proceeding without hesitation, constantly pursuing, dedication and perseverance. Nirvana is a word from Sanskrit, meaning parinirvana and rebirth.
