IELTS essay: Weddings.
The subject: Weddings are bigger and more expensive nowadays than in the past. Why is this the case? Is this a positive or negative development?
It is obvious that weddings have become more magnificent and vivid. This trend has both positive and negative causes.
First of all, in the modern world people are more wealthier than their ancestors. Due to such media as the Internet or TV, people can broaden their vision of certain questions, such as weddings. For example, Hollywood stars have a great influence on young people's decision making. Thus, the recent wedding ceremony of Madonna made a huge impact on wedding fashion in the US. Secondly, the great number of wedding planning firms are now proposing now a beautiful ceremony on the seashore. For people who live far away from the sea, it is a great opportunity to start the honeymoon right after the wedding celebration.
On the other hand, many people can't explain [Good alternative: justify] their desire to spend such a large amount of money for a one-day celebration. Very often they spend their parents' money. Furthermore, sometimes couples get into debt for the occasion, and then spend a few years paying the money back, which is certainly is not a very wise move. Finally, I think there are many more interesting ways to spend money than drinking and eating an entire night and day.
In conclusion, I want to say that although weddings have becme bigger and more splendid and bigger, I don't agree that this is a real confirmation of love and devotion.
