# 6 My English is improving and my passion for languages is increasing day after day (2013-07-19)
After a long time wishing to improve my languages and really doing nothing for that, I feel released. For many years I felt so sad and sometimes very depressed because I was not really good at languages. I was studying languages at the University, and I was a very good student, but it was not enough to be fluent and confident with the languages. The program at the University was not really good since it was not focused on anything. About learning languages: I had passion, I had the will to learn, but I did not have the correct resources and time for that. In addition I did not have the “right plan” as well. We could say that being organized about my time is not one of my talents or strengths.
I worked so hard, as hard as I could to learn and improve my languages, but I did not get the results that I expected. The cause was that I was working hard but without a proper plan, I did not have a specific and organized way to learn and practice what I was learning. I finished my university studies and I continued with this sad feeling of having failed in my goals, but I decided to make a plan and work really hard to keep it on the line.
Some weeks ago I met a “tutor” from India here on Italki. More than a tutor he became my friend, since he helped me to be more confident. I have already talked to many people before him but my shyness was always a problem to talk to people and keep practicing regularly. This tutor also added a girl to the call in Skype making me feel even more nervous to talk, but after some minutes I was feeling really great. Maybe because the girl is a nice and sweet person or maybe because I decided to overcome my fears about talking; the reason doesn’t matter, the things is that now I feel more open to speak to people although I know I will make a lot of mistakes.
A friend from Trinidad used to asked me “how is your English” and I used to say “still very bad”, he got a little angry one day and then he asked me “could you please say my English is improving instead of saying is still bad?- It could make you feel better”. Now I can say that, My English is improving. I still make a LOT of mistakes, sometimes stupid mistakes, but it doesn’t matter my English is improving because I´m facing all the fears I have about English. I´m trying to work more in my English without leaving French, but I´m conscious that I must focus on one if I really want to be fluent.
Every day I learn a new thing and my passion for languages increases

What a nice reflection! :)
I think you definitely described the feelings of many language learners (including myself). It takes a lot of courage to speak a new language and continue speaking/practicing it when you make mistakes.

All the best & go ahead.

@Paulo: thanks. :) I guess this (feeling happy when sb is possitive about learning) is a feeling that people learning languages share... @ Bruce: Well, that word "success" sounds still big to me since I´m still improving hahha I need to learn much more, but thanks... @ Fernando: I don´t know why you say you envy me, but thanks for your words. Sometimes is nice to remember there are other people who were or are in the same position that we are in ;)
