What does "cutie pie" mean?

Hi, everyone! I read a lot and I found a lot this come across the term "cutie pie" a lot. I understood, while I was reading, that it means or describes something "cute"(I wouldn't want to be wrong). Now, why is it used so often? I mean, where does it come from? Is there any info on its origin?

The term 'cutie pie', as stated above, is an endearing term used to address a loved one, or a person that is dear to you. It dates back to almost a century ago, although it is not known how it came about to be. I would like to believe it has something to do with both parts of the phrase which joined together would translate into something 'very sweet', as cute was first recorded an additional century ago in reference to a gal's beauty.
This made me think of pie:)
Buh-bye,
