Ask for correction on IELTS writing task 2 - Academic When families have a meal together, it is considered social activities. Do you think eating together is important to people in your country? The world is becoming more and more modern, global citizens are getting busier and busier. As a matter of fact, most of people nowadays choose to have meals at their office instead of going home. The increasing number of fast-food restaurants and processed-food suppliers, additionally, has been cultivating this kind of lifestyle. Believing in the values of traditional meals, I hold the belief that family members should have meals together. First of all, mealtime can foster mutual understandings. When the whole family gathers together, every member has chance to share with each other what they have done during the day, what make them happy, why they feel sad. By this way, they can get into the others’ shoes to understand and forgive for any of their unreasonable behavior. Secondly, by eating with their children, parents could teach them the table manners and social soft skills. Parents can supervise and correct their children’s mistake if they have improper etiquettes. Through daily-life story, moral lessons can be given to children by the adults. Take my family for an example; it is my dad that shows me how to divide the rice into equal parts according to the number of people appearing in the meal. That is a commonly-known skill that every Vietnamese girl should have if they wish themselves a happy marriage later in life. In addition, while eating together, through TV programs, my parents have brought me a number of moral lessons, which prove to grow a strong ethical foundation for me and my sister since we were young. Compared to Asian families, Western ones seem to have most of their meals alone or with their friends instead of with family members. It is due to the fact that Western people live indepently from their families at the early ages. However, one in a blue moon, they have meals together to update news from one another. For all of above benefits that shared mealtime bring about, it can not be denied that family nowadays should increase the amount of time they eat together as the saying has it “the family that eat together stays together”.
