Vietnamese New year - Tet

Tet is a strange time for foreign tourists and expatriates in Vietnam. Tết is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. It usually has the date falling between the months of January or February. Many visitors are surprised to find that almost everything is closed during the week of Tet. No bars, no restaurants. It is a quiet family affair.
Lixi or Lucky money is another Tet tradition. Children get money. If you visit a Vietnamese family on Tet, you should put some dollars into little red li xi envelopes. Usually, a good amount of money is for who are older than 15 years old. But with my family, it is incorrect. Last year, I got enough money from grandparents and my parents. In that time, I was still child and was going to school. Now, I graduated university and I work. So, this year I’ll save money and give my nephews or young brother, young sister or my grandparents, my parents. When I was younger I used this lucky money to buy reference book.
