Not sure if it is correct.. is is hi or bye? sometimes I end up using it in both occasions.

안녕하세요 is similar with hello, in this case, goodbye is more like 안녕히가세요.

You can think 안녕 as hi, but in this case, goodbye is also 안녕.

in korean, '안녕하세요' is 'Hi' or 'Hello' as you know, you can say it when you meet someone. and it's more polite than just saying '안녕'. you know? '안녕' means 'Hi' and 'bye'. it depends on when to say, the situation. it's informal but sounds familiar. so you can say '안녕' both ways
