To learn different foreign languages in the same time Last year I have been studying Chinese in the University in Shanghai. It means I spent a lot of time to do my homework and practice Chinese. Now I have the feeling that my English became worse and sometimes in English sentences I want to use Chinese words ;( What do you think about this problem? How do you think if there is point to learn different foreign languages in the same time?

To learn different foreign languages in the same time

Last year, I studied Chinese at the University in Shanghai. It means I spent a lot of time doing my homework and practicing Chinese. Now I have the feeling that my English became worse and sometimes in English sentences I want to use Chinese words ;( What do you think about this problem? Do you think there is a point to learning different foreign languages in the same time?

Suggestions:

<em>"Now I have the feeling that my English became worse and sometimes in English sentences I want to use Chinese words"</em> isn't necessarily wrong, but there is a few ways it could have been worded better.

One way you could rewrite it: "I have a feeling that my English has become worse and sometimes, in English sentences, I want to use Chinese words".

Learning different foreign languages at the same time.

Last year I studied Chinese at the University of Shanghai, meaning I spent a lot of time doing my homework and practicing Chinese. Now I have the feeling that my English has gotten worse, and sometimes when I speak English sentences I want to use Chinese words. ;( What do you think about this problem? How Do you think it makes sense to learn different foreign languages at the same time?

Oxana, I actually don't see a problem here. It's absolutely ok that sometimes when you forget the english word you want to substitute it with a Chinese one. It may also happen because what you want to express with a Chinese word simply doesn't exist in English or this Chinese word describes the thing more accurately. And yes, if you feel that you start to forget English and you'll need thsi language in future you should spend some time on it. Many people find it confusing to learn several languages when they are beginners in both languages but as i see from your profile you're not a beginner in neither English, nor Chinese. So don't worry!

Trying to learn different foreign languages in at the same time.

For a Last year I have been studying Chinese in the University in Shanghai. It[This] means I have spent a lot of time to doing my homework and practiceing Chinese. Now I have the feeling that my English became worse has suffered and sometimes in English sentences I want to use Chinese words ;( What do you think about this problem? How do you think if there is point it is possible to learn different foreign languages in at the same time?

Oxana, it seems your English hasn't suffered much!

I have more alternatives here:

"During last year I was studying ..." or "Last year I studied ..."

".. sometimes I want to use Chinese words in English sentences."

This is how the term "Franglais" came about, people from the UK and France combining words from both languages in the same sentence. It is inevitable until you can achieve fluency in both. I am always amazed when I hear a waiter in a holiday resort switch languages from one table to the next.

I think I'll probably always mix up words from different languages!

"Do you think if there is point in trying to learn different foreign languages at the same time?"

I think this depends on whether you can cope with the potential confusion, some people can manage it easier than others. For me I also have difficulties with characters that aren't on my English keyboard!

I had thought that Chinese characters didn't actually form words?
