そこで初めてドラムセットをたたきました。--> Is たたく an appropriate choice here? 　Yes it is, ドラム　is similar to the traditional japanese 太鼓　たいこ and we use たたく　as the verb

インターネットで近くに住んでいる先生に会いました。 --> Is 近くに住んでいる ok? yup, living close by
