私はともかく読むことを試みる

"at least" is often translated as 「すくなくとも」but "at least" also means "anyhow"too, dosen't it? In such a case, it can be 「ともかく」

You are really good at Kanji!

Learning points. I tried to use 試みる (こころみる) which is a transitive verb, but then used a verb よむ for reading rather than a noun. Using the adverb ためしに fixes this incompatibility. 読んで (よんで) is the te-form of the verb, used because it's ongoing rather than a one-time thing. I also missed the object marker in the last sentence.
