Meeting Jacqui on 07242015
We talked about sights in London.
Corrections:
sights vs. sightseeing: sights are places, while sightseeing refers to the activity of seeing sights. (Hmm, however, a search on google shows that "sightseeing in London" is a valid expression. Not sure whether this is a difference between American and British English.)
sights vs. attractions vs. resorts: sights and attractions are interchangeable. Resorts are places people stay on holiday.
a must-see: not "a must-visit place".
proud vs. pride: look how those proud those soldiers are!
musical vs. show: I watched the musical-- the Lion King.
along the Thames vs. around the Thames: I walked along the Thames.
exhibits: There are many exhibits in the British museum.
Went on the London eye: not "went to the London eye" nor "went the London eye".
Others
The lake of Garda: a beautiful lake near Verona.
Changing of guards: a tourist attraction at Buckingham Palace in London.
Hyde Park: not "Hyder" park.
Trafalgar: Trafalgar square, not Trafalgar market.
We can talk about ethical fashion, environmental or Shakespeare next time!

Hi Jacqui,
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, that makes sense. "sightseeing" in "sightseeing in London" still refers to an activity instead of a place.

Hi Minija, 'sightseeing in London' is a valid expression, but it refers to the activity of seeing the sights in London. Sightseeing can't be used to describe 'what you see'. Hope my explanation makes it clearer. JacquiD
