Frankly speaking, I think the son-in-law is disrespectful not polite and he has hurt the FIL’S??? heart very much. I feel sad for the poor father who gave the his most cherish possession -  thing ( 掌上明珠非是物his only daughter) to the a guy who does not treat/regard him with esteem not polite.

I also feel sad for the daughter who has not done much who did not to explain the cultural differences between the East and West.

Again, It is not about money; it is but about respect and courtesy.
