Can you interpret these sentences. First of all, the issue of time needs to be considered. Friendship requires time to flourish: Aristote reckoned one and a half time bushels of salt needed to be consumed together before a friendship became solid. At the present time, many people regard non-working hours as family time, but little allowance is made for the time needed to build friendships. Ironically, for politicians to discourage people from working long hours could be counter-productive, since a third of us make most of our friends through work. What the decision-makers could do, however, is discourage the drive for commercial gain that squeezes conviviality out of the workplace. Well‚ I got the meaning of a few sentences‚ the first sentence which tells us friendships needs time to be completed and thrived and also I understood the supposition of Aristotle but I didn't understand the second sentence completely‚ it was trying to say that at the present time specially our nonworking hours are considered as a family time actually the times which are given to our family when we are free of work‚ but little allowance of this free time is made for making friends or building friendships ‚Right? But I get confused with the rest‚ I think it is trying to say that politicians are trying to discourage people from working long hours but its not good because most of us make our friendships at work .and would you tell me the meaning of the rest "what the decision makers could do is discorage the drive...." What does drive mean here and also squeezes and conviviality and counterproductive. Thank you so much.

counter- is a prefix that means "against " . counterclockwise is a rotational direction that is the opposite of the direction hands on a clock go : ( clockwise = right, counterclockwise =left)
counterproductive means it actually is preventing advancement or production.

drive = desire, motivation
conviviality means friendliness. I dont recommend using it I had to look up its meaning myself. He probably just didnt want to use the word friendliness again.
I think you can guess what it means if you compare it to , for example, squeezing water out of a rag.

He is saying that the people that run businesses and companies should allow more time at their workplace for employees to interact -- so that they can improve their working relationship, or maybe they can develop new ideas together or get ideas from each other, or just be more relaxed while they are working. And that quality of the products and workplace would be more benificial to the company and its workers , instead of just focusing on the fact that, for example, making 55 engines a day is better than making 50 a day.
