Practical Chinese Grammar-Complement:V+得+C When you learn Mandarin, you should forget your language's grammar, because Chinese grammar is different from any the others. Today, I would like to introduce the Complement. A word or phrase after a verb or an adjective predicate to provide complementing information on the predicate is called a complement. Practical Chinese Grammar-Complement:V+得+C

When you learn Mandarin, you should forget your own language's grammar, because Chinese grammar is different from any other. Today, I would like to introduce the Complement.
A word or phrase after a verb or an adjective predicate to provide complementary information on the predicate is called a complement.
The complement of manner is used after the predicate verb to provide complementary information on the degree or manner of the action.
Basic patterns: S + V + 得 + C.
1), Affirmative: 我走得很快。
2), Negative: 我写得不好。
3), Affirmative-negative questions: 你跑得快不快?
4), Special question:你们学得怎么样?
The verb should be repeated when it takes both an object and a complement of manner. The complement of manner comes after the object. When the verb is not repeated, the object comes before the predicate or before the subject.

S + (V) + O + V + 得 + C.
我写汉字写得很慢。
我发音发得不太准。
我汉语说得很流利。
我妹妹歌喝得很好。

When 也or 都 is used as an adverbial, it can be put in either of two places:
after “得” i.e.
他跑得很快, 我跑得也很快。我们跑得都很快。
他跑得不快,我跑得也不快。我们跑得都不快。

or before the predicate verb, i.e.
他跑得很快,我也跑得很快。我们都跑得很快。
他跑得不快,我也跑得不快。我们都跑得不快。

This issue about the so called 'complement' is very confusing. Can you think of a way to explain it omiting the word 'complement' and replacing it with something else, 'adverb' or 'adjective' maybe?
