A discursive essay - Our lifestyles are less healthy than our grandparents’
Our lifestyle has changed a lot with the passage of time. This statement is based on the fact that we have access to new alimentary products and our responsibilities are different than grandparents’ ones.
First of all, our lives have become more stressed. Everyone must work to buy food, to pay a mortgage or a rent and so on. This situation is an enormous stressor for our health because of economic recession. In addition, we have some facts like traffic jams, enormous amounts of people in public transports in rush hours… and those events produce tiredness and irritability.
Secondly, our grandparents consumed natural products that they have farmed and have bred (such as pigs), so they didn’t use chemical articles. Now, companies use hormones and other products to have a large quantity of products and we don’t know what we are eating.
Another fact is that our forefathers didn’t have Internet access and TV, so they got adequate sleep. In our case, some people can’t disconnect from work, social media… as a consequence of that we don’t sleep enough hours.
On the other hand, our ancestors have lived difficult situations like wars and bad weather… to sum up, they have suffered famine and illnesses something that does not happen nowadays.
In conclusion, I think that our lifestyle has improve in some aspects but there are other ones which affects our health, in concrete, our mental health. For this reason, I believe we must look out for solutions.
