Title: "Glory Instead of Ashes"
Author: John Coblentz
Introduction
The prevalence of sexual abuse in schools has become increasingly evident, not only worldwide but also tragically within churches. Day by day, the resources available to victims of sexual abuse are growing. These resources come from support groups, counselors, and literature, each contributing in its own way. However, the quality of these resources varies significantly, and the support and solutions offered differ in focus and objectives. This discrepancy is also evident in counseling books.
This book offers a biblical guide on this issue with a focus on practicality rather than technicality. It is divided into two sections. The first section delves into the problems associated with sexual abuse, using the story of Tamar as a reference point. The second section presents tangible paths toward healing.
It is essential to note that this book does not negate the need for companionship and assistance from others in the life of a victim. Wounds do not heal with just a bandage or good advice; they require genuine friendships that can demonstrate the love and wisdom of God. Victims need friends who will take the time to sit with them, listen, understand, and share in their pain. They need friends who will walk alongside them on their journey, even in the face of human imperfections, and who possess the courage to confront sin and human suffering. Therefore, this book acknowledges the presence of counselors and recognizes its limits as only a guide.
