May I ask the difference between "be composed of", "be made up of" and "consist of"?

Hi :) From what I can tell they all have very similar meanings but would be used in different situations. For example, I would used “composed of” to explain something in a paper or lab report. Example: “The chemical found was composed of acid.” I would use “consisted of” in a similar way as “composed of”. They both have a more formal feel as though you were talking about what something/someone was made of. Though “consisted of” is usually used more commonly outside of writing papers. “Be made up of” is less formal and can be used in more day to day conversation. Example: “The cake was made up of flour, sugar, and eggs.” I hope this helps!
