Hi fellow Teachers!
I had a class today and the student asked me a question that I was unable to answer.
The student was asked to correct the following sentences;
-Who did say so?
-Where said he we're moving to?
The corrections are:
-Who said so?
-Where did he say we're moving to?
I am unable to explain exactly why you omit the 'did' in the first instance and add it in the second. I have had a long look at the rules around asking questions and I have come up short. Can anybody please assist me? :)

The sentence "Who did say so?" just puts emphasis. For me it sounds like : Who the hell said that?" :D
It's just like this:
I like cats (Ok, I like cats)
I do like cats! (I really like cats, do you understand me?)
:)

Did and do, add emphasis.
But I'm not a teacher.
