That's an interesting question. I did German grammar at school, so it was very basic. When I was older, I read a book, used a dictionary, and perfected my German. All that without any additional grammar books. I figured out the grammar myself from the reading material and the basics I learned from school. In answer to your question, YOU are the best English grammar book. First learn the basics, and from there you can figure out the rest through study.
