back (body/anatomy) in Korean?
Hi there,
I found different translations for the vocabulary "human back" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_back):
1) 뒤... - could it be this?
2) 허리 - is what my Active Korean 2 book says, but isn't it rather be the "waist"? Also I'm not sure about naver, it basically states "등; (등)허리" ?!
3) 등 - I read this is for the anatomy, I found it on bab.la
4) My Hippocrene dictionary says it's rather "차 뒤쯕에"? Or did I interpret it wrongly?
Thanks for your help in advance!

When we call one's back, we call " 등허리" For example
1. Apply a pain relief patch to a sore spot on one's back. ---> '등허리'의 아픈 곳에 파스를 붙이다.
We can also say "등" For example
1. Please pat my back -----> "등" 좀 두둘겨 주세요.
We can aslo say "뒤태" For example
1. You have a beautiful back----> 당신은 아름다운 "뒤태"를 가지셨군요.
차 뒤쯕에 -----> 차 뒤쪽에가 맞습니다.
We can't use " 등, 뒤태 " when we mention about the object such like car
If you wanted to say what is one's back in Korean, it would "등" or "등허리"

Simply adding,
1) 뒤 is possible. '너 뒤에 뭐 묻었다' --- 'You got something on your back'.
2) 허리 is rather smaller part than human back. It's from the top of the buttocks to somewhere near the mid-lower part of the rib cage. 허리=waist. But, usually when someone says '허리 아파요', the pain usually refers to backpain, the lower part of the back.
3) 등 is commonly used to refer to 'back'. '등 좀 긁어줘.' ---'Scratch my back, please.'
4) I don't understand.. 차 뒤쪽에 means the back side of the car..
