the difference in meaning/usage between "imply" and "allude"
Please help me understand the difference! Thanks!

The word "allude" comes from the Latin. It is a synonym of "imply", but more subtle, referring indirectly or by suggestion. "Imply" may also suggest, but it has more the meaning of logical deduction or logical inference. For example, all cows are brown, so this implies your cow is brown. For an example of "allude", the article in the newspaper alludes to a recent event.
